Jet2 Cabin Bag: What Every Passenger Gets Free

Every Jet2 passenger gets a free cabin bag in the overhead locker: 56 x 45 x 25 cm, 10 kg maximum, and it goes in the locker — not just under the seat. On Ryanair, you’d pay £6–36 in Priority Boarding fees for the same locker access. easyJet charges for a Large Cabin Bag add-on to do the same thing. Jet2 includes it on every fare.

The Personal Item (Underseat Bag)

On top of the main cabin bag, every passenger can also bring a small bag under the seat in front: up to 40 x 30 x 20 cm, no stated weight limit. A standard laptop backpack fits comfortably in that space, which means Jet2 passengers effectively travel with two free bags.

One common error in competing articles: some list the Jet2 personal item as 40 x 30 x 15 cm. That is British Airways’ personal item spec. Jet2’s is 40 x 30 x 20 cm — 5 cm deeper.

How Strictly Does Jet2 Enforce Bag Rules?

Less aggressively than Ryanair or Wizz Air. There is no metal sizer at the gate. Staff do not routinely weigh every cabin bag, but bags that are visibly overpacked can be weighed on suspicion. The 10 kg limit is real — don’t treat it as theoretical. For a comparison of how all UK airlines enforce cabin bag rules, see our UK airline carry-on size comparison.

Hold Luggage: The Crucial Difference Between Jet2holidays and Flight-Only

The booking type determines whether you get a free hold bag — not the route, fare class, or how far in advance you book.

Jet2holidays and Jet2 CityBreaks — 22 kg Included Free

If you have booked a Jet2holidays package or a Jet2 CityBreaks break, you automatically get one 22 kg checked bag per person per flight, included at no extra cost. That applies on both legs — outbound and home.

A family of four on a Jet2holidays booking gets four 22 kg bags each way. Compare that to Ryanair or easyJet, where every hold bag is a paid extra regardless of booking type.

That’s one bag per person, not a pooled allowance by default — see the baggage pooling section below for how same-booking passengers can consolidate.

Jet2 Flight-Only — Hold Bag NOT Included

Book flights only through Jet2.com and there’s no free hold bag. You add one separately:

Option Price
Hold bag online (up to 22 kg) From £10 per bag per flight
Hold bag at the airport £45 per bag per flight

That £35 gap is one of the steepest price differences in UK aviation. A family of four who forget to add bags online is looking at £180 extra in airport fees on a return trip. Add the bag when you book, or the moment you realise you need one.

Excess weight: £12 per kg over the 22 kg limit. A 5 kg overage adds £60. Weigh your case before you leave home.

Maximum single bag weight: 32 kg. Anything heavier is refused outright.

Up to three hold bags per person can be added per flight (not counting infants), each priced separately.

Can You Pool Baggage Allowances on Jet2?

Yes. Passengers on the same booking reference can combine hold bag allowances, as long as no single bag exceeds 32 kg. In practice: a couple on a Jet2holidays booking could pack 44 kg into one 32 kg case and a 12 kg bag, rather than two separate 22 kg cases.

This is a widely accepted approach at Jet2 check-in for passengers sharing a booking reference — check-in staff have final discretion. You cannot combine allowances across separate booking references even if you are on the same flight.

Twilight Check-In: The Outbound Bag Trick

Twilight Check-In is a free Jet2 service that lets you drop your hold bags at the airport between 4:30 PM and 9:00 PM the evening before your flight. You arrive the next morning with just your cabin bag and go straight to security. It runs at 12 UK airports, for flights departing before noon only, and requires online check-in first.

Twilight Check-In is free. No booking required. Online check-in must be completed first.

Available at these Jet2 departure airports (as of March 2026):

  • Birmingham
  • Bristol
  • East Midlands
  • Edinburgh
  • Glasgow International
  • Leeds Bradford
  • Liverpool
  • London Gatwick (new — Jet2’s Gatwick routes launched on 26 March 2026)
  • London Luton
  • London Stansted
  • Manchester
  • Newcastle

Key restriction: Twilight Check-In only applies to flights departing before noon. Later departures use standard check-in hours.

Resort Flight Check-In: The Return Bag Trick (Jet2holidays Only)

Resort Flight Check-In is a Jet2holidays-exclusive service where you hand your hold bags to a Jet2 rep at your hotel on the morning of your return flight. Jet2 transports them to the airport. You spend your final day bag-free and arrive at the airport with just your cabin bag.

> Note: As of March 2026, Resort Flight Check-In is suspended between 5 November 2025 and 13 April 2026. When it runs, the service is available at Cyprus (Paphos and Larnaca) and Canary Islands destinations (Tenerife, Gran Canaria, Lanzarote, Fuerteventura) only — not across all Jet2holidays destinations. Travellers heading to Spain, Greece, Turkey, or other destinations will not have access to this service.

How it works when available:

  • You receive a text message invitation approximately 72 hours before your return flight
  • You bring your bags to the designated hotel drop-off point on the morning of departure
  • Bags are collected, tagged, and transported to the airport by Jet2
  • You arrive at the airport with just your cabin bag and go straight to security
  • Your hold bags come out on the carousel at your home airport as normal

Together, Twilight Check-In (outbound) and Resort Flight Check-In (return) mean that on eligible Jet2holidays packages, your hold bags could leave the evening before you fly and be reunited with you at home — without standing in a check-in queue at either end.

Infants and Families: The Strongest UK Policy in 2026

Since August 2025, Jet2 is the only major UK airline that does not charge for infants under 24 months. Ryanair and easyJet both charge approximately £25 per flight per infant; British Airways charges varying amounts depending on route and fare class. Jet2 charges nothing.

An infant booking comes with:

  • The infant flies free (on a parent’s lap — no seat included)
  • 10 kg added free to the accompanying adult’s hold bag — a 22 kg allowance becomes 32 kg for that adult
  • Up to 2 baby equipment items checked free with no weight cap: pushchair/pram, car seat, booster seat, baby carrier, or travel cot
  • The pushchair can travel to the aircraft steps and is returned at baggage reclaim

For a family comparing Jet2 against other airlines with a baby, the combined saving — free infant fare plus two free baby equipment items — can easily reach £100–200 on a return booking.

Jet2 Sports Equipment: Fees and Booking

Pre-book online. The airport walk-up price is consistently higher than most articles quote.

Equipment Online price Airport price Max weight Notes
Golf clubs From £25 per bag per flight £30 22 kg One set per adult
Ski / snowboard From £25 per bag per flight £30 22 kg Max 290 x 90 cm
Bicycle From £25 per bag per flight £30 32 kg Max 180 x 90 cm

Most articles quote “from £30” for Jet2 sports equipment. That’s the airport price. Online it starts from £25.

Ski carriage promotion: Jet2 ran promotional discounts on ski carriage through early 2026. Check the current Jet2 ski carriage page for live pricing, as promotional booking windows can close.

Musical Instruments on Jet2 Flights

Small instruments that fit within 56 x 45 x 25 cm and weigh under 10 kg count as your standard cabin bag allowance — no extra charge.

Larger instruments (guitar, cello) can travel in the cabin on a dedicated purchased seat. Arrange this through Jet2 customer services before you fly. The instrument must weigh no more than 65 kg and must not extend more than 30 cm above the seat. Jet2 allocates a non-emergency exit window seat.

CPAP Machines and Medical Equipment on Jet2

A CPAP machine travels in addition to your standard 10 kg cabin bag — it does not count against your limit. It must fit within 56 x 45 x 25 cm, and you need to notify Jet2’s Assisted Travel Team at least 48 hours before departure.

Non-essential medical equipment that is too large for the cabin bag dimensions is subject to the standard baggage policy. Contact the Assisted Travel Team before booking if you’re travelling with multiple devices or oversized equipment.

Power Banks, Vapes, and Restricted Items

Power banks must always go in your cabin bag — never in the hold. Lithium battery fires in cargo holds are significantly harder to contain than fires in the cabin. If you pack a power bank in your checked suitcase, it will be removed at check-in.

Battery capacity thresholds:

  • Up to 100 Wh: fine without approval
  • 100–160 Wh: requires Jet2 prior approval
  • Over 160 Wh: not permitted

Vapes and e-cigarettes go in cabin baggage only. Protect them from accidental activation and don’t recharge them onboard. E-liquid follows the standard 100 ml liquids rule. Spare batteries need original packaging or taped terminals.

Airport Liquids Rules — It Depends Where You’re Flying From

Different Jet2 departure airports now operate different rules, depending on whether CT scanners have been installed.

100 ml rule lifted: Birmingham, Bristol, Edinburgh, London Gatwick

100 ml rule still applies: East Midlands, Glasgow International, Leeds Bradford, Liverpool, London Luton, London Stansted, Manchester, Newcastle

Even if your departure airport has lifted the restriction, the 100 ml rule still applies when departing from airports abroad for your return. Duty-free purchased after security is exempt but must remain sealed with the receipt visible on boarding.

Jet2 vs Ryanair and easyJet: Real Cost Comparison

Jet2 (holidays) Jet2 (flight-only) Ryanair easyJet
Free cabin bag 56 x 45 x 25 cm overhead 56 x 45 x 25 cm overhead 40 x 30 x 20 cm underseat 45 x 36 x 20 cm underseat
Overhead locker Free on all fares Free on all fares Requires Priority (£6–36) Requires paid add-on (£6–63)
Free hold bag 22 kg included None None None
Hold bag add-on from Included £10 online / £45 airport ~£10–25 online ~£20 online
Infant fee (under 2) Free Free ~£25 per flight ~£25 per flight
Excess weight £12/kg £12/kg £11/kg ~£12/kg

For a family of four on a Jet2holidays package, the all-in baggage value is hard to beat. For a solo traveller going light on a flight-only booking, Ryanair or easyJet’s lower base fares may still undercut Jet2 on total cost — but the gap narrows quickly once hold bags and overhead access are added. See our UK airline baggage comparison for a full breakdown.

Jet2 Guaranteed Cabin Luggage: Is It Worth It?

On busy flights, Jet2 may ask passengers at the gate to have their overhead bag placed in the hold. If you need to guarantee your cabin bag stays in the cabin — medication, camera gear, valuables — you can buy Guaranteed Cabin Luggage through Manage My Booking.

If Jet2 places your bag in the hold despite the purchase, you can claim a refund from Jet2 Customer Services. The current price is not published publicly — check your specific booking in Manage My Booking for the live figure.

How to Save Money on Jet2 Baggage

  • Book flight-only hold bags online — the £45 airport price is avoidable. The online price starts from £10.
  • Pool your baggage allowance across your booking — passengers on the same booking reference can consolidate hold bags, as long as no single bag exceeds 32 kg.
  • Weigh your case at home — £12/kg excess adds up fast. A basic luggage scale costs around £10 and pays for itself on one trip.
  • Use Twilight Check-In for early flights — free, available 4:30–9 PM the evening before, at 12 UK airports. Requires online check-in first.
  • On a Jet2holidays package to Cyprus or the Canaries? Use Resort Flight Check-In — drop your bags at the hotel on the morning of your return and spend the day bag-free. Available from April 2026.
  • Infants under 2 fly free — the only major UK airline offering this in 2026.
  • Power banks go in your cabin bag only — not the hold.
  • The personal item is 40 x 30 x 20 cm, not 40 x 30 x 15 cm — the 15 cm depth is British Airways’ spec.
  • Check your departure airport’s liquids rule — Birmingham, Bristol, Edinburgh, and London Gatwick no longer require the 100 ml limit.

Can I combine baggage allowances with someone else on my Jet2 booking?

Does Jet2 fly infants for free?

Yes. Since August 2025, Jet2 is the only major UK airline that charges £0 for infants under 24 months. The infant booking is free and comes with an additional 10 kg on the accompanying adult’s hold bag, plus two free baby equipment items with no weight cap.

What is the Jet2 Guaranteed Cabin Luggage add-on?
